University of Livingstonia (Unilia) this week bid farewell to its longest-serving members at a ceremony held at it’s Kaning’ina Campus in Mzuzu.

The ceremony which was graced by officials from Standard Bank and FDH Bank was organized as a way of showing appreciation to the retirees for rendering their services to the university in its formative years.

Speaking during the event Unilia Vice Chancellor, The Very Rev. Associate Professor Timothy Nyasulu, said the event was meant to recognise excellent work and to motivate other staff members. “As head of this university I found some work already done and I am building on the work already started by other people. It is therefore important to recognize other people’s role,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of retirees Rev. Dr. Howard Matiya Nkhoma commended the university for recognizing members who worked hard to establish the institution.

We would like everybody to benefit from this institution, at the same time those who have graduated from here be encouraged in their respective careers and carry on serving the country, he said.

Rev. Dr. Nkhoma once served as General Secretary of the C.C.A.P. Synod of Livingstonia, Principal of Ekwendeni and Kaning’ina Campuses, and he is retiring as Chancellor of Unilia. He will hand over the role in September this year.

An official who spoke on behalf of the banks thanked the university and pledged continued support, saying banks exist because of customers who patronize their services.

The four retirees who were presented with gifts at the party are; Rev. Dr. Overtone Mazunda, Rev. Dr. Matiya Nkhoma, Rev. Dr. Levi Nyondo and Dr. Augustine Chikoma Msiska.
