1. EKWENDENI CAMPUS

Faculty of Theology

P1.     Master of Arts in Theology and Religious Studies

Description of the Programme

The primary aim of the Master of Theology and Religious Studies is a two (2) year course comprising of 120 credits. The programme develops   competence in research skills and allows advanced studies in a wide range of topics and disciplines in theology and religious studies. It is designed to provide graduates with recognized qualifications to enable them to hold positions in society or in religious organizations in which academic excellence is a prerequisite and also participate in current theological debates relevant to Church and society. Graduates will have the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue further studies and research at the doctoral level.

P2.     Master of Arts in Theology and Gender Studies

Description of the Programme

The Master of Theology and Gender degree focuses on deepening knowledge and skills in theology and gender. It aims to foster students’ understanding of the core theological areas whilst showing how these can shape a coherent Christian approach to issues concerning gender justice and equity in Malawi and beyond.

P3.     Master of Arts in Theology and Development Studies

Description of the Programme

This programme recognizes the growing necessity of integrating approaches to development, which in Sub-Saharan Africa have often involved the Church, with theological understanding. In so doing, it seeks to deepen students’ understanding of the core theological areas whilst also showing how these can shape a coherent Christian approach to development in Malawi. The programme will take an in-depth look at the core areas within the disciplines of theology and development studies as well as exposing students to the ways in which they can be integrated.

Requirements for the programmes for Masters:

a. Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, or Education (Humanities), or Social and Development Studies with credit or equivalent fields from an accredited institution.

b. The programmes will be offered through both taught Coursework and Research, or by Research only.

c. Masters by Coursework and Research will be done in two years, with one year dedicated to coursework on the campus, while the second year to research.

d. Masters by Research will be completed in three years, through extensive research work and writing of modules

2. KANING’INA CAMPUS

Faculty of Applied  Sciences

P4. Postgraduate Diploma in Global Sanitation

Description of the Programme

This is a professional diploma educating talented and ambitious young and mid-career professionals working at sewerage companies, municipal assemblies, government ministries, private sectors, NGOs and consulting companies to deal with rural, urban and peri-urban sanitation, sanitation for vulnerable populations. The Postgraduate Diploma will be for a duration of 1 year (Two Semesters) covering course work only. Students will not be required to conduct research and defend the theses.

P5      Master of Science in Global Sanitation 

Description of the Programme

The programme aims at educating talented and ambitious young and mid-career professionals working at sewerage companies, municipal assemblies, government ministries, private sectors, NGOs and consulting companies to deal with rural, urban and peri-urban sanitation, sanitation for vulnerable populations. They will become sanitation experts capable to plan, design and implement sanitation programmes and projects in Malawi and worldwide.

This programme has a one year taught course work on a modular-basis. The delivery of modules will be on a block release of specified duration spread throughout the first year. The second year will be for students to do own research that will lead to an examinable thesis.

Location: Kaning’ina Campus, in the City of Mzuzu at about 0.5 km from the Mzuzu to Nkhata Bay road at Mtwaro Flats.

Requirements: 

a. Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Food Security and Nutrition, Environmental Management, Education Sciences, Community Development and other health related fields from an accredited institution.

b. This programme is on full time basis through course work and research only for 2 years with one year of taught courses and 1 year of research and thesis defense.

c. Postgraduate Diploma is on a full time basis but offered in through block release for 1 year.

d. The Postgraduate Diploma will not require a research leading to defendable Thesis as required by the University.

3. Fees structure for the programme

a. Fees for Postgraduate Diploma is MK550,000

b. Fees for MSc shall be MK3,000,000 for th entire programme, i.e. MK750,000 per Semester for Malawian nationals and US$5,200 for the entire programme, broken into US$1,300 per Semester for foreign students by coursework,

c. Fees for master’s programme by research (Theology only) shall be MK1, 300,000 for local students and US$2,500 for international students.

d. Unilia REC and Research fees will be determined separately.

Note:

  1. The collection and determination of catering fees is solely in the hands of service providers. Students will be expected to pay directly to service providers for their food
  2. Details of fees payment will be communicated in admission letters.

4. METHOD OF PAYMENT OF FEES PER SEMESTER

a. All applicants should provide proof of capability to pay the required fees.

b. Upon admission into the programmes, students should pay half of the required fees per semester in order to be registered. The fees balance should be paid in at least two instalments.

c. Students are required to deposit fees to the bank and produce the deposit slip during registration.

d. The University follows a policy of “No Fees, No admission”.

e. The Council of the UNILIA reserves the right to amend all fees during the course of the academic year.

5. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

a. Application forms can be accessed on the University website (unilia.ac.mw) and all University offices. Use an application letter where the application forms are not available.

b. Attach two passport size photographs

c. Applicants must provide proof of previous education in form of copies of notification of results or certificates.
