University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) was established in 2003 under the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Livingstonia.  Guided by Christian values according to the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, its mission is to educate and inspire learners who shall transform society, through excellence in teaching, research, consultancy, and learning environment. The University is accredited by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).

    1. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES: Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into various undergraduate programmes for the January-intake of the 2019 Academic Year. Minimum entry requirements for specific programmes are outlined below;

5. Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management · Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six (6) credits including English, Physical Science, Biology and Mathematics.

 

· Applicants with a Diploma from a recognised institution will be enrolled in 2nd year or 3rd year subject to evaluation of the transcript.

 

·  Applicants with certificates in relevant fields will be enrolled in 1st year.

6. Bachelor of Science in Public Health · Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six (6) credits including English, Physical Science, Biology and Mathematics.

 

· Applicants with a Diploma or equivalent qualifications in (Nursing and Midwifery, Clinical Medicine, Environmental Health) obtained from recognised institutions will be enrolled in 3rd year subject to evaluation of the transcript.

 

·  Paramedics and those with Certificate in Clinical Medicine including Diploma in Biomedical Sciences and Nursing and Midwifery Technician Diploma from a recognised institution will be enrolled in 2nd year. Transcript will be required.

· Equivalent courses should have a minimum of 55 points grade average or its equivalent.

 

· Applicants with a Diploma in Education and a major in TRS may apply but will be required to take additional courses.

1.    METHOD OF PAYMENT OF FEES PER SEMESTER

· All applicants should provide proof of capability to pay the required fees.

· Students should pay at least half of the required fees per semester in order to be registered. The remaining balance of fees should be paid in at least 2 monthly instalments after registration.

· Students are required to deposit fees to the bank and produce the deposit slip at registration.

· Only students who have paid the required fees and fulfilled registration requirements will be given authority to attend classes and access other services.

Note:

· The collection and determination of catering fees is solely in the hands of service providers. Students will be expected to pay directly to service providers for their food. Details of payments will be provided in the offer letter.

· Those students scheduled for Teaching Practice and Attachments will be required to pay a contribution fee of MK50, 000.00 before commencement of these programmes. This fee does not cater for accommodation.

B  POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME: Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into two-year postgradute programmes for the January-intake of the 2019 Academic Year. Minimum entry requirements for specific programmes are outlined below;

 

1.    Master of Arts in Theology and Religious Studies · Applicants should have a Bachelor of Theology or a related degree. This has the following tracts to choose from: Biblical Studies, Church History, Religious Studies and Systematic Theology.

Admission Requirements:

Candidates applying these programmes should have a Bachelor Degree in Theology, with an average grade of at least 55 %  or Postgraduate Diploma in Theology or its equivalent from an accredited institution of Higher Education. Those from a non-theological undergraduate degrees, including those with a Bachelor of Education, with Theology and Religious Studies (TRS) as major, will be required to take specific courses in order to attain admission to these programmes, as directed.

Programme delivery: All cademic programmes comprise assessable components, based on a combination of courses and research.

Coursework and Research is one in which more than one-third of the total academic programmes are assessed based on performance in taught courses.

Research programme is one in which more than two-thirds of the requirements are assessed based on research related performance.

The Masters by Coursework and Research will be done in two years, with one year dedicated to coursework on the campus, while the second year to research.

Masters by Research will be completed in three years, through extensive research work, writing of modules and a dissertation.

 

Period for Registration

A student registered for the degree of Master of Arts by Course Work shall be requiredy to be in class for two semesters and complete a dissertation, before the degree is conferred. Students have the opportunity to register twice a year. This being the case, classes begin in January and September each year.

Student registered for the degree of Master of Arts by Research shall remain a registered student for a minimum period of three years, before the degree is conferred. Masters by research begins whenever the student has been registered.

Prescribed Fees

Total Fess per student are as shown below:

      1. MK 300,000 per semester for Malawian students who take Coursework;
      2. MK 400,000 per semester for foreign students who take Coursework;
      3. MK 200,000 per semester for Malawian students studying through Research only, and
      4. MK 300,000 per semester for foreign students studying through Research

 

The University of Livingstonia reserves the right to revise its fees in line with the prevailing cost of living in the country from time to time.

Accommodation and Meals

Other related costs such as accommodation, meals, book allowances, field research and medical cover will be the student’s responsibility. However, there is limited space for accommodation, which is at the fee of MK 60,000 per semester.

 

Selection Requirements

All applicants shall produce satisfactory of their competence to work for the qualification sought. The University may decline to admit to admit any candidate  for the qualification of the applicant whose previous academic attainments are, in its opinion, not sufficiently high to warrant such admission.

Approval of Applications

The Admissions Committee considers for approval applicants whose files are complete. The following items are required:

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • Application forms can be obtained from the University Registrar’s in Mzuzu, Laws Campus at Livingstonia, Ekwendeni Campus, NICE district Offices, Chichiri Secondary School in Blantyre, Lilongwe Congregation of CCAP Synod of Livingstonia (AREA 47) and Emmanuel Teacher’s College in Lilongwe and Zomba Theological College in Zomba.
  • Completed applications should be sent by post, or delivered by hand in the University Registrar’s Office in Mzuzu.
  • Students who were admitted in the September 2018 intake and failed to report but made reservations for their places in writing should not reapply. However, they should confirm in writing their readiness to be admitted.
  • Such students do not need to pay an application fee. Only fresh applicants will be required to pay the application fee.
  • Applicants should attach to completed forms; copies of certificates, notification of results slips or transcripts and an application letter.

  • Completed application forms should be returned with a non-refundable admission application fee of MK7, 000 (undergraduate programmes) and MK 10,000 (Postgraduate Programmes) for Malawian applicants and US$50 for international applicants and a copy of the MSCE Certificate or its equivalent.
