The Faculty of Social Science is located at Ekwendeni Campus.
The Faculty aims at equipping students with analytical and practical skills in socio-economic
issues, specifically development, economic management, human rights, gender,
administration, entrepreneurship, research, politics, law, democracy and
governance with a view to make a significant contribution in dealing with the
numerous socio-economic challenges facing the country.

Degree programmes offered
Currently, the Faculty has two degree programmes as follows:

  1. Bachelor of Social Science in Human Rights
  2. Bachelor of Social Science in Development Studies

Bachelor of Social Science in Development Studies

Aims
and Objectives of the programme are:

      
Encourage
a critical interdisciplinary approach to the study of development

      
Foster
interest in research and advocacy in development related disciplines

      
Students
should be able to:

a.   demonstrate a
critical understanding of multidimensionality of development

b.   apply knowledge
from different disciplines in dealing with development challenges such poverty

c.    engage in advocacy
on gender mainstreaming in the field of development studies

d.   provide sound
ethical leadership based on Christian values

e.    demonstrate
understanding of management, administration and economic processes

f.     conduct research
in different aspects of human rights and development

Bachelor of Social Science in Human Rights

Aims
and Objectives of the programme are:

      
Encourage
a critical interdisciplinary approach to the study of human rights

      
Help
in consolidating democracy, respect for human rights and good governance

      
Foster
interest in research and advocacy in different areas of human rights

      
Students
should be able to:

a.   demonstrate a
critical understanding of human rights theory, practice and institutions

b.   apply knowledge
from different disciplines in dealing with different human rights issues

c.    engage in advocacy
and promote respect for human rights at different levels of society

d.   provide sound
ethical leadership based on Christian values in the area of human rights
governance and democracy

e.    conduct research
in different aspects of human rights

f.     demonstrate
respect for diversity in all forms as citizens of their nation and of the
world.

    Bachelor of Social Science in Development Studies Entry Requirements

    ·        
    Applicants
    should have a full M.S.C.E or its equivalent with six credits (6) including
    English and Mathematics – Duration 4 years

     

    Applicants
    with an advanced Diploma in Development Studies from an accredited University
    or institution will be enrolled in 2nd year, subject to evaluation
    of the academic transcript – Duration 3 years

       

      Bachelor of Social Science in Human Rights Entry Requirements

      ·        
      Applicants
      should have a full M.S.C.E or its equivalent with six credits (6) including
      English and Mathematics – Duration 4 years.

       

      Applicants
      with Diploma in Law or Human Rights  from
      an accredited University or institution will be enrolled in 2nd
      year, subject to evaluation of the academic transcript – Duration 3 years.
